We choose a material that suits the job. Glass is see-through, so it is good for windows. Metal is strong, so it is good for a bridge. Rubber is bendy and waterproof, so it is good for wellies. Wood is strong and hard, so it can make a chair. Some materials can be squashed, bent, twisted or stretched. Pulling an elastic band to make it longer is stretching it.
